Spoon Dan - Côte d’Ivoire

Beautiful Dan spoon, beautiful proportions, the legs are slightly bent and show scarification marks. The bottom and the calves are delicately modelled. This is not a spoon for eating with, but a ceremonial spoon belonging to a wunkirle or the most hospitable woman in the village. The wunkerle is a good farmer and cook and is very generous. She likes to heartily spoil her guests, organizing meals for the village festival, inviting strangers or young female singers who go around the villages to show their talent. Being a wunkerle is part of the ‘cult of excellence’ practiced by the Dan ethnic group. to try to be the best in your specialty.
