Very nice mask Yogi, beautifully carved with its ??face grimacing that symbolizes both asceticism and ridiculousness. The mouth makes a face, a forced grin, exposing teeth. The eyes are narrowed in this general grin that seems to show the obsequious will to be taken seriously and the fact of being object of derision. The yogi is a widely used mask in the religious and seasonal festivals of the villagers. It is both a buffoon and a character with a paradoxical wisdom. It is both an individual subject of mockery and a character feared. It is a religious wanderer who claim to want to teach the path to enlightenment but is ridiculed by his clumsiness. But at the same time his knowledge suggest a magic power which can inspire fear. The highlanders are suspicious of religious wanderers, are they illusionists, fakirs, or holy men? Hence the paradoxical personality.
